JHS Pedals
Despite all JHS Pedals bearing his initials, Josh Heath Scott couldn’t be more humble, or more dedicated to empowering his fellow musicians. On his hit web series, “The JHS Show”, he explains and demonstrates his guitar pedals in a transparent and approachable manner, and even lavishes praise on the work of his competitors. As Josh regularly states on his program, “there’s plenty of room for everybody”.
In 2007, Josh managed to repair the footswitch on a Boss Blues Driver, and whet his appetitefor the innards of effects pedals in the process. He began reverse-engineering his favorite tones to determine what imbued them with their singular magic. Through experimentation and comparison, he consistently found what he was searching for. JHS started out simplymodifying pre-existing pedals, and still offers modded versions of iconic stomp-boxes.When Josh was ready to define JHS pedals proper, and start building his own pedals fromscratch, he had already gleaned enormous insight into what was and wasn’t missing from theboards of the masses. Using a diverse set of sonic inspiration that ranged from Jimi Hendrix to Dire Straits to Sonic Youth, he wanted to offer amazing tones in ways that hadn’t been done before. JHS pedals exhibit enormous self-awareness and subtlety, seamlessly integrating with virtually any rig. They are an extension of the music, itself.
From the immensely popular Morning Glory, a transparent overdrive that conspires to provideonly what your tone is lacking, to the idiosyncratic Color Box, which captures the uniquelysquashed timbre of plugging directly into a vintage Nieve recording console, JHS excels atthinking outside the box. . .and then putting it into a box. Furthermore, it’s impossible to imagine a better resource for the intricacies of stacking tones that the aforementioned “JHS Show”, in which Josh articulately distinguishes between common effects.
We’re big fans of JHS over here at Midwood Guitar Studio and proudly wear them on our own boards. Give us a call and let’s discuss which JHS guitar pedal can help you achieve the tone of your dreams.
