2019 Lowden S-50 Winter Limited Edition - Tiger Myrtle - one of 25

This one-of-25 Winter Limited Edition Lowden S-50 (#22661) is a truly rare collector’s piece, handcrafted by Lowden in Northern Ireland. It pairs an ultra-figured Master Grade Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle back and sides — a tonewood so scarce that Lowden’s founder notes it took a “10 year search for this rarefied wood”. Tiger Myrtle shows its famous dark “tiger” striping against warm pink-orange hues, making each guitar’s back uniquely eye-catching. The soundboard is Master Grade Sitka Spruce, the archetypal top wood renowned for its sweet, smooth, balanced tone. Together, these premium woods give the S-50 a broad, articulate voice: sparkling treble with rich, full bass and plenty of headroom.

The tone is both powerful and refined – We would describe this Winter Edition Lowden as having a balanced tone with clear highs, deep lows with a subtle warmth. The S-50’s body shape and Lowden’s “GL Standard” neck profile offer exceptional playability for fingerstyle or flatpicking. Luxury appointments abound: figured maple binding and Pau Ferro/Maple/Mahogany purflings edge the body and soundhole, and understated abalone inlays add elegance. A five-piece Mahogany/Walnut neck with ebony fingerboard provides rock-solid stability and a silky playing feel. A soundboard bevel (Lowden custom option) makes upper-fret playing extra comfortable. Gold Gotoh 510 tuners with ebony buttons round out the guitar’s refined appointments, ensuring precise tuning and a touch of vintage style.
